Every payday I make a pact with myself that I will save money and refrain from buying any gig tickets. It’s safe to say that I break this promise, every time.
I love nothing more than going along to watch live music, and here in Chester, we’re lucky to have plenty of top quality live music venues.
Don’t get me wrong, huge concerts are great, but there’s nothing better than small intimate gigs, particularly if it’s going to support some of your city’s local musicians. From Telford’s Warehouse, to Alexander’s there are some great places in the city to do so.
In August last year, northern online music magazine Soundsphere (soundspheremag.com) launched their new music event Sourdough, at St Mary’s Creative Space in Chester. The all-day festival was filled with artists and DJs, including the amazing Alx Green and Phlux.
This year’s event will be taking place at The 2nd Floor on Upper Northgate Street. The shop is a vibrant space and a celebration of local and independent artists. Its warm and welcoming vibes make it the perfect spot for an intimate gig with The Floormen, Sit Down and a band who are very familiar to the city, Chupa Cabra.
Each of these bands will be bringing their own unique sound to The 2nd Floor, from The Floormen’s psychedelic sounds to Brighton’s “noisiest power duo” Sit Down’s quirky melodies.
As the gig is in October, it’s the perfect excuse to kick-start Halloween early, and it’s BYOB for 18+.
I’ve already started pre-planning my excuse for next payday…
Get your tickets to the Sourdough x Soundsphere Halloween Party on Saturday 13 October at The 2nd Floor here. Early bird tickets are available for a limited time only! (£8.80 at the time of writing. Full price – £11).
