About This Event

Gladstone’s Library is delighted to announce that tickets are now on sale for the sixth year of Gladfest which takes place at the Library in Hawarden, 7th – 9th September.

Exciting names this year include Sunday Times Bestseller Joanna Cannon (Three
Things About Elsie), multi-award-winning author Sarah Perry (Melmoth), writer and broadcaster Richard Holloway (Waiting for the Last Bus: Reflections on Life and Death), novelist and poet Michèle Roberts (The Walworth Beauty), broadcaster and writer Sally Magnusson (The Sealwoman’s Gift) Stylist journalist Lucy Mangan (Bookworm: A Memoir of Childhood Reading) plus an exclusive preview reading of their forthcoming Lord of the Flies production from North Wales’ premier theatre, Theatr Clwyd.

The festival also boasts a number of the country’s brightest breakthrough talents
including Penny Boxall (Who Goes There?), Annabel Abbs (The Joyce Girl),
Sheena Wilkinson (Star By Star), Sam Guglani (Histories) and Malachy Tallack
(The Valley at the Centre of the World).

This year the festival is excited to transform its back lawns into a creative hub with the launch of the Gladfest Fringe – a carefully curated space bustling with FREE performances and stalls. Music, storytelling and open-mic poetry are just some of the exciting sessions to look forward to and there will be makers workshops, stalls and choirs too. There will also be a range of free comic book craft activities for young people and the young at heart curated by InterAct Imaginations – find them in the Young People’s Tent!

This year Gladfest is proud to welcome on board two new sponsors; Arriva Bus
Wales and The Laura Ashley Family Foundation / The Community Foundation in
Wales. Lisa Pearson, Head of Marketing for Arriva NW & Wales said,
“We are delighted to be involved with this years’ Gladfest – here at Arriva NW & Wales, through our Community Promise Programme we are committed to supporting community events such as Gladfest that have both a fun & educational focus. We’re looking forward to being a part of what the 2018 festival will bring to North Wales!”
