THE GREEN LIGHT FOR THE REDEVELOPMENT OF CHESTER CITY CENTRE MAY WELL BE AROUND THE CORNER… AT LONG LAST, WRITES GERAINT PRICE
If recent history is anything to go by, asking the public its opinion is fraught with danger. Hopefully, the options facing Cestrians in the coming months will be a little easier to navigate with the launch of a new web portal showcasing the plans for the city’s regeneration.
The Chester One City Dashboard was launched recently by the Chester Growth Partnership, and at its core is the Chester One City Plan — the masterplan for the city’s development for the next eight years.
Peter Carstensen, Chair of CGP, said at the launch event in the Storyhouse: “The purpose of the dashboard is to get people to share information and collaborate.”
The launch follows a number of consultations in recent months that have culminated in a new set of design plans, by AHR Architects, which are currently being displayed at the information shop that was opened in the Forum last month.
And this week (MAR 28) marks the start of the formal consultation that will lead to the full planning application in May.
Chester West and Chester Council received planning permission in 2016 for the relocation of the existing market, together with a new six-screen cinema to be operated by Picturehouse above the new building.
And the revamped indoor market has attracted over a million visitors in the past year, enticed by the mix of international food, craft beers and late night promotions.
The Storyhouse celebrated a million visitors in its first year — a figure that saw it make the top ten of list of UK visitor attractions.
The plan is for the development works to start this Autumn with construction set for early next year

Amble will be releasing a video interview with the Phase 1 Northgate Development team over the next few weeks; which addresses the primary questions, concerns and ideas raised in the recent Chester GFN (Good For Nothing) survey.
